Turin DF83 Gen 2 Single-Dose Espresso Grinder
The Turin DF83 Gen 2 is a powerful 83mm flat-burr single-dose grinder for coffee drinkers who want fast grinding, full-bodied espresso, low retention and a large aftermarket burr platform. It combines Turin burrs, a 550W motor, fixed 1,400 RPM operation, stepless adjustment, a plasma ion generator and a bellows-assisted workflow in a compact aluminum body.
It is especially well suited to traditional espresso, medium and dark roasts and milk drinks, while retaining enough adjustment range for light-roast espresso, pour-over, drip, AeroPress and French press. The fixed-speed design keeps daily operation straightforward: weigh the beans, start the grinder, add the dose and use the bellows after grinding.
Why Choose the Turin DF83 Gen 2?
Large 83mm flat burrs: A broad cutting surface grinds espresso doses quickly and supports a wide selection of premium burr geometries.
Red Titanium stock burrs: The included espresso-focused set balances body, sweetness and clarity.
Powerful 550W motor: Provides strong fixed-speed performance for dense beans and fine espresso settings.
Low-retention single dosing: A short grounds path, declumper and bellows help reduce carryover between coffees.
Plasma anti-static system: Ion-generator probes in the chute help reduce static and loose chaff.
Stepless adjustment: The polished aluminum collar allows very small changes while dialing in espresso.
Improved carrier stability: Four guide posts and four springs support the upper burr carrier and help maintain consistent alignment.
Anti-popcorn collar: Helps keep beans in the chamber when dosing into a running grinder.

Fixed Speed or Variable Speed?
The DF83 Gen 2 runs at a fixed 1,400 RPM. That is an advantage for buyers who want a powerful 83mm grinder with a consistent, straightforward daily workflow and do not expect to tune motor speed as another brewing variable.
Variable speed is useful when you want to experiment with feed rate, throughput and how a particular burr geometry behaves at different RPM settings. It does not automatically produce better coffee, and there is no single ideal RPM for every coffee. Burr geometry, roast level, dose, grind setting and brew recipe generally matter more than the number shown on a speed dial.
Choose the fixed-speed DF83 Gen 2 when simplicity, fast grinding and 83mm value are the priorities. Choose the DF83V V3 when adjustable RPM, a brushless motor and a horizontal controlled-feed design justify the additional cost for your workflow.
DF83 Gen 2 vs DF83V V3 vs DF64 Gen 2.7 vs DF64V Gen 3
These grinders share a stepless, low-retention single-dose workflow, but they are intended for different buyers. Moving from 64mm to 83mm primarily provides a larger burr platform, higher-powered motor and faster throughput. Moving from the DF83 Gen 2 to the DF83V adds variable-speed control and a brushless horizontal-drive design.
Especially strong for espresso and milk drinks with stock burrs; filter capable
Espresso or filter with broad RPM and burr flexibility
Highly versatile for espresso and filter
Espresso and filter experimentation on a 64mm platform
Best reason to choose it
Fast, powerful 83mm grinding without paying for RPM control
Maximum 83mm control and premium motor design
Best balance of flexibility, burr availability and price
Variable-speed 64mm performance in a smaller platform
Main tradeoff
No RPM adjustment
Higher cost and larger footprint
Less motor power and smaller burrs than the DF83 models
Higher cost than the fixed-speed DF64
Which grinder should you choose?
Choose the DF83 Gen 2 if you want the most economical route to a fast, powerful 83mm grinder and prefer a consistent fixed-speed workflow.
Choose the DF83V V3 if you want an 83mm platform with adjustable RPM, a stronger brushless motor and additional control over feed and grinding speed.
Choose the DF64 Gen 2.7 if value, smaller size and access to the broad 64mm aftermarket burr ecosystem matter more than maximum motor power or 83mm throughput.
Choose the DF64V Gen 3 if you want variable speed and a brushless motor but prefer a smaller 64mm platform.
Important: An 83mm burr is not automatically better for every coffee. Burr geometry and recipe have a major influence on body, clarity and flavor separation. Choose the platform that matches the coffees you brew and the workflow you want.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the DF83 Gen 2 good for espresso?
Yes. Espresso is its strongest use case. The large burrs, 550W motor and stepless collar support fast grinding and precise dialing.
Can it also grind for pour-over and French press?
Yes. Its adjustment range covers filter and immersion methods. Filter-focused burrs can further increase clarity and reduce fines.
What changed from the original DF83?
Gen 2 adds the redesigned exterior, polished adjustment collar, plasma generator, integrated anti-popcorn collar and four-post/four-spring burr-carrier support.
Does the DF83 Gen 2 have variable speed?
No. It runs at approximately 1,400 RPM. Choose the linked DF83V if adjustable RPM is important.
How much coffee does it retain?
It is designed for very low retention, but exact input-to-output results vary with beans, grind size, seasoning, static, cleanliness and bellows technique.
Does it require RDT?
The plasma generator reduces static, so many users can grind without RDT. A minimal mist may still help in unusually dry conditions.
Is the DF83 Gen 2 noisy?
Its powerful motor and large burrs grind quickly, limiting total grinding time. Perceived noise varies with beans, grind setting and the surface beneath the grinder.
Can it grind directly into a portafilter?
The fork can accommodate many 58mm portafilters, although the included dosing cup is usually the cleanest and most repeatable workflow.
Should I start the grinder before adding beans?
Yes. A running start supports smooth feeding and reduces motor load, especially at espresso settings.
Should I adjust finer while the grinder is running?
Yes. When moving finer, run the motor so trapped coffee does not bind the adjustment mechanism.
Can SSP 83mm burrs be installed?
Yes, compatible SSP 83mm burrs with the correct mounting pattern can be installed. Confirm fit before ordering.
Does Espresso Outlet install or align SSP burrs?
No. SSP upgrades ship uninstalled and unaligned, and the original stock burrs remain included.
Do the burrs need seasoning?
The grinder can be used immediately, but grind behavior may change slightly during the first several pounds of coffee.
How do I clean the DF83 Gen 2?
Unplug it, brush the chute and dosing area regularly, and follow the manual for deeper burr-chamber cleaning. Keep liquids away from the motor and chamber.
Will cleaning change my grind setting?
Mark or record the collar position before disassembly. This makes returning near the previous dial-in point easier after reassembly.
What comes in the box?
The grinder includes installed Red Titanium burrs, bellows, wood lid, anti-popcorn collar, dosing cup, cup tilter, cleaning brush and manual.
Is this the 120V US version?
Yes. This Espresso Outlet listing is the 120V / 60Hz US model.
What warranty is included?
A one-year Espresso Outlet warranty is included for the original purchaser, subject to the complete warranty terms.

Using hard water will ruin your espresso machine. Soft water no higher than 50ppm is required to keep your espresso machine running for the long term. Using hard water will void the warranty.
Great Service! It has been a few months since I purchased my machine, but I absolutely love it. Initially I had some issues with damage from shipping, but Joe took care of it immediately so there were no problems. He also stayed on the phone with me for a long time the day I received my machine so I could get everything working properly. I highly recommend!

Great customer service! Joe worked with me from purchasing a grinder to ultimately returning and changing to a different grinder. It’s a tough decision buying without seeing or using and the fact that a business is willing to work with their customers goes a long way with me. I would definitely recommend Joe and EspressoOutlet.
After years of toying with the idea of espresso at home I finally jumped off the deep end and bought a Turin MC3. I’d like to thank the folks over at Espresso Outlet for going back and forth with me via email a bunch of beginner questions about how to get the machine dialed in. Don’t have any real comparison to other machines, this being the only one I’ve ever used. Paired the machine with a matching Turin CF46v grinder and, as a person with no experience, have consistently been turning around solid espresso. Once you get the pre-measured shot volume dialed in it’s been outputting a consistent 16/40 ratio on the pulled shots. I do like the separate steam generator as it is rather quick to warm up enough to froth or pull hot water. Machine takes around 10-15 minutes to warm up from cold to operating temps. All in seems well built, feels good, finishes are good. Would buy again.
I spent a LOT of hours researching to find the grinder that I felt would best fit my needs and I
I spent a LOT of hours researching to find the grinder that I felt would best fit my needs and I am SO happy I decided on this one. I absolutely LOVE my Turin DF54 grinder as it’s nothing but top quality at a ridiculously reasonable price! I must admit, it took me a bit to find that perfect grind setting, but once I did … perfection! The only thing that makes me a tad nervous is when it comes time to clean the burr blade (which of course I haven’t needed to do just yet). But good to know there are videos/visuals to go by to help me through the process. So, yes, THANK you Turin/Espresso outlet for making this grinder available. Extremely pleased! 💛🙌🏼💫🙏🏼✨☕️
Ease of use! Great grind every time. Fairly quiet. Feels like a solid piece of equipment at 10#. Making great Espresso shots!! Switches between grind settings with ease for different styles. Bellows ensures minimal retention. Open box deal was amazing. Looks like new!

Roasts great and taste great!! You can really taste the cinnamon.
You can really taste the cinnamon. A true 10 out of 10!
I love my Turin Legato V2!! I was initially torn between it and the Gemilai Ele but went with the V2 because of the additional water flow, along with OPV setting. It literally has just about everything I want in an advance espresso machine in a small package at an amazing value - pulls perfect shots! The only slight downside is that the drip tray is small so emptying it daily is a must. If Turin makes a version 3, please keep all the same settings and options but give it a bigger drip tray/workflow, longer steam wand, and make it prettier. It's basically touching on perfect. Thanks!
Absolutely gorgeous machine, and so easy to plug and play. Was very surprised and extremely pleased to receive a flawless unit even as an open box. Thank you so much!
Machine started out ok, but just 9 months in to owning the machine it leaks out of the bottom of the machine, not the drain, but the machine itself. Such a waste of money
I think the roaster is well built and does the job. I’ve already done a dozen runs and it’s mechanical quality is meeting all my expectations. However Artisan and my Apple Mac hate each other. Lots of unresolved issues with software
