For coffee shops, mobile bars & hospitality
Build a coffee bar that keeps up.
Shop commercial espresso machines, coffee grinders and coffee shop equipment for your café, restaurant, bakery, cart or trailer. Start with the drinks you serve and your busiest service window, then match brewing capacity, milk steaming, grinder workflow and utilities to the job. Espresso Outlet can help you compare the equipment and plan a setup around your business.
Buying guide: equipment, sizing & installation
Choose equipment for your business type
The same daily drink count can create very different demands. A restaurant serving espresso after meals and a café taking twenty orders in a short rush need different production plans. Use these starting points to build your shortlist.
Coffee shops & drive-thrus
Plan around the morning queue, the number of baristas working at once and your milk-drink mix. Compare a two-group machine with the grinder speed, steam recovery and workspace needed to keep orders moving.

Measure the complete station, including grinder, pitcher space and storage. Confirm available power, water supply, wastewater handling and transport requirements before choosing a compact machine.

A commercial one-group machine is worth evaluating when one person prepares espresso and peak demand is manageable. Allow for staff multitasking, the largest milk orders and seasonal busy periods.

Decide who makes the drinks and who cleans the equipment. A super-automatic can simplify preparation; compare its menu, milk handling, ingredient capacity and cleaning routine with your service needs.

Size your espresso machine for the rush
Count espresso drinks during your busiest 15 minutes. Include extra-shot recipes, large milk drinks and orders that arrive together. Then consider how many people can grind, prepare shots, steam milk and finish drinks without crossing paths.
| Configuration | What it adds | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| One group | A focused station for one barista. | Whether brewing and steaming can meet your peak queue. |
| Compact two group | Two brew groups within a smaller footprint. | Boiler capacity, heating power and usable space between operators. |
| Standard two group | More room for simultaneous shot preparation. | Steam recovery, grinder throughput and the full counter layout. |
| Three group | Another brewing position for concentrated demand. | Whether staffing and workflow will use it; utility and counter requirements. |
A practical example: 20 espresso drinks in 15 minutes is an 80-drink hourly pace during that window. It is a planning input, not a machine output rating. Drink recipes, steaming time, grinding and staff workflow determine whether a proposed setup can sustain it.
Choose the shot-control workflow, too
Semi-automatic machines let the barista start and stop extraction. Volumetric machines stop at a programmed water volume, which can help a barista manage other tasks. Continue checking beverage yield with a scale: a programmed water dose is not the same as a guaranteed espresso weight.
Need more simultaneous production? Compare three-group machines and commercial machines for high-volume service alongside your staffing plan.
Build the complete coffee shop equipment list
Treat the espresso machine as one part of a production station. Budget for the supporting equipment that staff will use every day.
- Espresso grinder: choose a commercial coffee grinder for your service workload, adjustment needs and cleaning access. Timed dosing meters by grind time; grind-by-weight models target a set dose weight. Evaluate a separate decaf grinder when demand makes switching coffees disruptive.
- Water treatment: select espresso machine filtration and softening from a water test and the machine manufacturer's requirements. Include cartridge replacement access and recurring cost.
- Batch coffee: if drip coffee is on the menu, plan a commercial coffee brewer, the appropriate grinder and holding capacity for your service pattern.
- Barista tools: allow for scales, milk pitchers, correctly sized tampers, a knock box and cleaning supplies. Match portafilter and basket accessories to the exact machine.
- Supporting infrastructure: account for refrigeration, sinks, ice, cups, storage, point of sale, installation labor and opening inventory in the full business budget.
Compare the installed cost: equipment + required utilities + water treatment + delivery and setup + training. Keep ongoing filters, cleaning, burr replacement and service in your operating plan.
Check power, water, installation & service
Resolve site requirements while comparing machines. A compact cabinet does not automatically mean a standard outlet or a simple installation.
- Confirm the exact electrical configuration. Check voltage, amperage, phase and the required connection for the model and variant. Have a qualified electrician verify available circuits and the total equipment load.
- Test the incoming water. Match treatment to the manufacturer's specified water chemistry. A carbon filter alone does not necessarily address hardness; softening and reverse osmosis solve different problems. Confirm any remineralization requirements before using RO water.
- Plan supply and drainage. Verify inlet pressure, shutoff access, the required drain arrangement and room to change filters. For a cart or trailer, include the pump, fresh-water supply and wastewater system in the design.
- Measure beyond cabinet dimensions. Include cup storage, steam-wand movement, grinder hopper access, service clearance, counter support and the delivery route.
- Confirm approval and support. Verify the exact model's certifications and suitability with the relevant local authority before ordering. Review commercial warranty terms and identify a service provider who supports the model in your area.

Compare brands & get a tailored equipment shortlist
Compare model families as well as brands. Group count, controls and utility requirements can vary within the same range, so use the selected product's specification sheet when planning your bar.
- Nuova Simonelli: compare Appia Life, Aurelia Wave and Nuova Aurelia configurations for your production needs and preferred controls.
- La Spaziale: explore one-group, compact and full-size commercial options, including S2 and S9 models.
- Rocket Espresso: compare the commercial range and confirm the exact boiler, electrical and installation specifications.
- Commercial grinders: explore Fiorenzato and Mazzer, then narrow the choice by workload, dosing method, footprint and cleaning access.
