Turin SD40 and SD40S First-Use Setup and Dial-In
Confirm the model and voltage before first use. US SD40 and SD40S grinders are 100–120V, 60Hz machines with a 150W motor; they should not be connected to a 220–240V supply or voltage converter unless specifically rated.
Assemble and inspect
- Keep all packaging and photograph the label.
- Place the grinder on a dry, level counter with ventilation around the motor.
- Install the correct hopper, lid, and bellows without forcing
- Seat the dosing cup beneath the chute.
- At a coarse setting, run the empty grinder briefly and listen for a steady motor sound.
Small coffee traces can come from factory testing. Brush away loose residue rather than washing the burr chamber.
Dial in with a running start
- Weigh one dose and start the motor before adding beans.
- Let the grinder clear, then use a few controlled bellows presses.
- For espresso, move finer in small increments if the shot is fast; move coarser if it chokes.
- When making a significant move finer with beans present, keep the motor running to reduce binding.
The SD40 uses a separate adjustment lock; the SD40S collar does not use that same manual locking step. If you are unsure which version you own, identify it before replacing adjustment parts.
