A 1:2 brew ratio—about 18 g of dry coffee yielding about 36 g of espresso—is a useful starting point, not a law. Count time consistently from the moment you start the shot. If the cup tastes balanced outside the window, keep the recipe. If it tastes sharply sour and runs fast, create more resistance. If it is harsh, dry and very slow, create less.

The display helps track grind time and extraction, but a small scale remains the clearest reference. After changing grind size, purge a little coffee so retained grounds do not blur the result. Recheck dose because a finer or coarser setting changes timed output.

What grind setting should I use on the Barista Pro?

When should I change the water filter?

Why does water remain in the drip tray?

Normal purging and pressure release route water to the tray. Frequent filling can also increase during steaming and cleaning; empty it regularly.

  • Prioritize a scale and good grinder workflow: a 0.1 g scale usually improves diagnosis more than cosmetic accessories.
  • Use approved cleaning materials: coffee detergent and descaler do different jobs. Avoid vinegar or improvised chemicals unless Breville explicitly approves them for this model.
