DF64 Gen 2 Scraping Noise After Cleaning: Recheck These Parts

A new scraping sound immediately after cleaning usually points to reassembly, not sudden motor failure. Switch off and move the DF64 Gen 2 coarser. Do not run coffee through it until the burrs rotate quietly at a clearly coarse setting.

Chirp and scraping are different

A brief, light chirp while deliberately locating burr touch can be a calibration reference. Continuous metallic scraping, pulsing contact, or contact far into the coarse range is not a normal grind sound.

First check the adjustment position

After the collar has been removed, the printed number may no longer represent the same gap. Start coarse with the chamber empty. If scraping disappears as you move coarser, you may simply be too close to the new true-zero point. Do not try to restore an old number by forcing the collar finer.

Return the upper carrier to its marked position

The upper carrier can sit in more than one rotational position, and changing position can shift the contact reference. Unplug the grinder and reinstall it at the orientation recorded before cleaning. Confirm the carrier is fully seated and the collar threads smoothly.

Look for trapped coffee and pinched parts

  • Coffee beneath either burr prevents it from sitting flat.
  • A burr seal can fold or become pinched.
  • A spring or carrier contact point can sit outside its recess.
  • A screw tightened fully on one side first can pull a burr unevenly.
  • A loose chute or external panel can imitate internal scraping.

Other noises after cleaning

A loose dosing-cup fork, bellows lid, or anti-popcorn piece can rattle. A foreign object can create a sharp recurring tick. A motor bearing issue generally does not begin exactly when the burr carrier was reinstalled, so timing is useful evidence.
