DF64V vs Lelit William PL72

The Turin DF64V and Lelit William PL72 both use 64mm flat burrs, but they organize grinding differently. The DF64V is a variable-speed single-dose platform. The William is an on-demand espresso grinder with timed dosing from a hopper. Matching burr diameter does not make their daily routines or cup profiles identical.

Which DF64V version?
The current Gen 3 listing includes a plasma ion generator, revised motor and grounds path, and stock Red Titanium burrs. Older DF64V examples may have DLC burrs or different speed ranges. Match the comparison to the actual unit; a later revision’s features cannot be assumed on a used first-generation grinder.
Why choose single dosing?
The DF64V is convenient if you weigh every dose, alternate coffees or want to explore RPM. Keep grind size and recipe stable before experimenting with speed, then taste and re-dial as needed. The broad 64mm aftermarket offers choices, but compatibility and installation must be checked. No coating should be described as delivering a guaranteed tenfold service life in normal ownership.
Why choose the William?
Lelit’s William technical documentation describes a 350g hopper, 64mm burrs and LCC timing controls. Check the exact PL72-120 or PL72-P finish and regional version being offered. Timed dosing is useful when several drinks use the same coffee; verify grounds weight after changing the grind or beans. A hopper-fed grinder is not inherently less capable of precise espresso.
What to test before deciding
Try the workflow with your portafilter or dosing cup. Can you see the controls, remove the cup cleanly and reach the hopper beneath your cabinets? Evaluate a separately dialed recipe on each grinder. Burr geometry and coffee matter more than matching the nominal size or comparing motor numbers in isolation.
Ownership and value
Allow for a scale, current shipping and warranty terms, and any optional burrs. Clean accessible burr and chute parts dry and unplug before maintenance. The DF64V’s removable chute is convenient, while the William’s timer reduces repeated manual measuring of beans. Choose whichever removes the friction you experience most often.
