How to Clean the Turin SD40 and SD40S Burr Chamber and Chute
Unplug the grinder and clean its internal coffee path dry. Water, spray cleaner, or a wet brush can reach the steel burrs, board, and motor.
Routine cleaning
- Run the grinder empty and use the bellows to expel loose grounds.
- Unplug it.
- Remove the hopper and wipe it separately.
- Brush the chute, dosing-cup area, and accessible collar surfaces.
- Photograph the dial position and every disassembly stage.
- Remove collar
- Keep screws, springs, spacers, and carriers.
- Brush the 40mm conical burrs and chamber
- Coffee can compact behind the declumper and inside the exit chute. Clear residue gently; bending or trimming the declumper changes its behavior. Replace a worn component only with a confirmed-compatible part.
Oily roasts and fine espresso grinding usually require more frequent cleaning. A slowing output stream, rising retention, stale odor, or clumps at the chute are useful warning signs.
Test after reassembly
Return to a coarse setting, rotate or inspect the burr movement, and run the empty grinder briefly. Stop for repeating metal contact, wobble, or a stuck collar. Adjust finer until you find the zero point where burrs are just barely touching.
Re-dial in your coffee from the brewed result rather than assuming the old number is unchanged.
