The LUCCA M58 is a dual-boiler, rotary-pump E61 espresso machine built for home baristas who want independent brew and steam control, quiet operation, and the choice of reservoir or direct-plumb water supply. Its PID manages the brew and steam boilers separately, while the shot timer and brew-pressure gauge provide useful feedback during dial-in.

Best fit: households that prepare both straight espresso and milk drinks, entertain regularly, or want a plumbable machine with a traditional E61 lever workflow. Users who only drink espresso may prefer a simpler single-boiler machine, while those wanting automated volumetric buttons should consider a different platform.

Why dual boilers matter

Espresso brewing and milk steaming require different temperatures. The M58 maintains a dedicated brew boiler for extraction and a separate steam boiler for milk and hot water. That allows simultaneous brewing and steaming without switching a single boiler between temperature ranges.

  • Independent PID control: adjust brew and steam temperatures for coffee and milk workflow.
  • Rotary pump: quieter than a typical vibration pump and compatible with direct plumbing.
  • Reservoir or water line: begin with the internal reservoir and plumb the machine later if the installation supports it.
  • 58mm E61 group: uses commercial-size baskets and common espresso preparation tools.
  • Shot timer and gauges: monitor extraction time, brew pressure, and steam pressure while dialing in.
  • Stainless-steel boilers: durable internal construction with separate heating systems.

Reservoir or direct plumb?

Reservoir operation is flexible and requires no permanent installation. Direct plumbing eliminates routine tank filling and allows the rotary pump to draw from a water line, but it requires proper filtration, pressure management, a shutoff valve, and usually a drain plan. Never select filtration by taste alone: test local hardness and alkalinity, then match treatment to the machine manufacturer's water requirements.

Who should choose the M58?

The M58 is a strong fit when several cappuccinos or lattes may be prepared back to back, because the brew boiler can remain at extraction temperature while the steam boiler works independently. It also suits users who value the quiet feel of a rotary pump and expect to plumb the machine. If counter width, initial cost, or espresso-only simplicity is the priority, compare the LUCCA Solo. A grinder remains at least as important as the machine. Use a grinder with fine, repeatable adjustment and enough burr capacity for your preferred roast style. Browse our home espresso grinders for compatible options.

Ownership and maintenance

Allow the E61 group adequate time to heat through, purge and wipe the steam wand immediately after use, backflush according to the manual, and keep the water system within specification. On a plumbed installation, replace treatment cartridges based on water use and measured capacity rather than waiting for scale symptoms.

Note about water hardness

Using hard water will ruin your espresso machine. Soft water no higher than 50ppm is required to keep your espresso machine running for the long term. Using hard water will void the warranty.
