Rocket R58 TUNE: Dual-Boiler Espresso with Controlled Low-Pressure Phases
The Rocket R58 TUNE combines separate PID-controlled brew and steam boilers with a rotary pump, optional direct-water connection and a magnetically mounted touchscreen Communication Pod. Its defining addition is TUNE: controlled low-pressure phases at the beginning and end of extraction, around the main brewing phase. That gives a home barista another recipe variable without turning the machine into a fully automatic coffee maker.
Choose the R58 TUNE when you want to adjust brew temperature independently of milk-steaming conditions, experiment with gentler extraction phases and keep the option of plumbing in later. It is a different generation from the earlier R58 Cinquantotto. Do not use an older R58 review to assume identical controls, case dimensions, reservoir size or warm-up behavior.
How TUNE Technology Changes the Recipe
Rocket describes a three-phase extraction approach with fixed 3-bar pressure during the low-pressure pre-infusion and finishing stages. The purpose is to give control over how the puck is initially wetted and how extraction continues after the main phase. These are defined low-pressure stages, not an unlimited, freely drawn pressure curve.
Begin with a repeatable conventional recipe before experimenting. Keep the beans, dose and intended beverage yield consistent, change one TUNE parameter at a time, and taste the result. A longer low-pressure stage can change the amount of liquid collected and the total brewing time, so comparing only the stopwatch can be misleading. The system does not guarantee sweetness or eliminate channeling when puck preparation is poor.
Independent boilers and a rotary pump
A 0.58-liter coffee boiler supplies brewing while a separate 1.8-liter service boiler supports steaming and hot water. Independent PID regulation separates the two temperature-management tasks. That is the meaningful difference from a heat-exchanger Rocket whose coffee path is heated by the main steam boiler.
The rotary pump supports tank operation or a correctly installed water line. Plumbing removes regular reservoir refills but introduces water-pressure, treatment, shutoff and installation requirements. It is an option, not a requirement for enjoying the machine at home.
Communication Pod and push-turn controls
The 3.5-inch color touchscreen provides access to boiler settings and machine functions. Its magnetic mounting makes placement part of the installation, and its width must be included when planning the coffee bar. The new push-turn knobs offer a quick push action for purging and a turning action for controlled operation. These workflow changes are separate from the TUNE extraction functions.

These are Rocket’s TUNE specifications. Allow additional room for hoses, tank access, cups and service. A cabinet designed around the older Cinquantotto’s footprint should be remeasured before replacing it with a TUNE.
R58 TUNE vs. Cinquantotto, FAST V and Appartamento TCA
The Cinquantotto established the detachable-controller, rotary-pump dual-boiler format. TUNE adds its low-pressure extraction system, redesigned interface placement, push-turn controls and revised case/heating design. These are generation-specific features, not software assumptions to apply to an older open-box R58.
The Mozzafiato FAST V is a reservoir-fed heat exchanger with a vibration pump. Choose it when that workflow meets your needs; choose R58 TUNE when separated boilers, rotary pumping and the extraction controls are priorities. The Appartamento TCA offers four boiler-pressure settings in a smaller format, but those settings are not the TUNE system’s low-pressure espresso phases.
Water, Grinder and Ownership Planning
Pair the machine with a grinder that supports small, repeatable espresso adjustments. The Turin DF64 Gen 2 is a useful single-dose comparison for owners changing coffees; browse home espresso grinders for other workflows. A scale remains important because an advanced control pod does not weigh the drink for you.
Use water meeting Rocket’s specification whether filling the tank or plumbing in. Follow the manual’s cleaning and startup procedures, keep the group and steam tip clean, and arrange any internal service through the appropriate support route. Retain the packaging and request shutdown/draining instructions before shipping the machine or exposing it to freezing conditions.
Rocket R58 TUNE FAQs
TUNE and generation differences
What is new on the R58 TUNE?
The TUNE generation introduces the low-pressure extraction-phase system, a repositioned magnetic touchscreen pod, push-turn knobs and revised case/heating design. It retains the dual-boiler and rotary-pump concept, but should not be treated as the earlier Cinquantotto with a different nameplate.
What do the 3-bar TUNE phases do?
They provide lower-pressure stages around the main extraction phase. Rocket describes adjustable timing to influence initial wetting and the finish of the shot. Their effect depends on the coffee, grind and recipe; they are tools for experimentation rather than a guarantee of better flavor.
Is TUNE unrestricted pressure profiling?
No. Rocket describes defined low-pressure phases at a fixed 3 bar. That differs from choosing any pressure at any point in an unrestricted profile. Compare the actual parameter controls rather than assuming every machine advertised with profiling has the same capabilities.
Is TUNE the same as Appartamento TCA?
No. TCA selects main-boiler pressure to influence a heat-exchanger system. TUNE changes the low-pressure phases of espresso extraction on a dual-boiler platform. Boiler pressure and pressure applied during brewing are different measurements and serve different purposes.
Does the R58 TUNE stop at a programmed beverage weight?
It is not presented here as a built-in grind-by-weight or beverage-scale system. TUNE phase programming and shot timing do not measure liquid mass. Use a separate scale and the machine’s operating instructions to manage your intended yield.
Can I add TUNE features to an older Cinquantotto?
Do not assume a firmware update or replacement screen provides the new machine’s functions. The models differ in hardware and controls. Ask about an explicitly supported upgrade before buying components; this product page describes the factory R58 TUNE.
Boilers, water and installation
Can brew and steam temperatures be adjusted independently?
Yes. The coffee and service boilers have independent PID regulation. This lets you change brew-temperature settings without using steam-boiler pressure as the main temperature adjustment. It is still necessary to let changes stabilize and verify the resulting espresso.
Can it brew espresso while steaming milk?
Yes. Separate boilers support that workflow. The 1.8-liter service boiler still has finite capacity, so pitcher size, hot-water use and recovery matter during repeated milk drinks. The machine’s home format is not a substitute for sizing a commercial station.
Does the R58 TUNE need to be plumbed in?
No. It can run from its 1.9-liter reservoir. A direct-water connection is optional and should be planned around the exact inlet, permitted supply pressure, treatment and shutdown arrangements. Do not change water-source settings without following the manual.
What is the advantage of its rotary pump?
It supports the factory’s reservoir/direct-water flexibility and a different sound and operating character from a vibration pump. It does not remove the need for accurate grind adjustment. Correct water supply and pressure remain necessary in either installation mode.
How wide is it with the display fitted?
Rocket lists 335mm for the main body and 408mm with the display, approximately 13.2 and 16.1 inches respectively. Account for the pod as well as the chassis, then leave room to operate the wand and access the reservoir.
Will an overseas 230V specification work for my U.S. order?
No. This listing is for the North American 115V, 60Hz version rated at 1,600W. Verify the actual plug and circuit before installation. A travel adapter does not convert supply voltage or increase the capacity of the circuit.
Daily control and maintenance
How quickly does the TUNE warm up?
Rocket identifies a fast-heat-up design, but readiness depends on the initial temperature and the warmed brewing equipment. Follow the TUNE startup guidance, not a timer quoted for the previous R58. Warm the portafilter and use the ready indication as instructed.
Can I schedule it to heat before I wake up?
The TUNE’s interface includes automatic-on scheduling as described by Rocket Espresso USA. Set the clock and schedule using the supplied manual and ensure the machine has its required water supply. Scheduling does not override safe placement or normal maintenance.
Can the Communication Pod be removed?
Rocket describes it as detachable and magnetically mounted. Follow the prescribed connection/disconnection procedure and keep the connector protected. Do not treat a machine-control connector as a general charging port or connect unrelated devices.
What is the benefit of the push-turn knobs?
They combine a quick push action with conventional turning control. Rocket describes pushing to purge and turning for sustained control. Learn the response before working with hot steam, and clean milk residue from the wand immediately after each use.
Do I need a particular grinder for TUNE recipes?
No specific brand is required, but precise espresso adjustment matters. Low-pressure stages can reveal inconsistencies in dose and puck preparation rather than compensate for them. Start with a repeatable grind and weighed recipe before changing the extraction phases.
What water and cleaning routine should I use?
Use the water limits and maintenance schedule specified for the TUNE. Tank water and plumbed water both need appropriate chemistry. Backflush the coffee path as directed, clean steam components and consult service before internal descaling or adjustments.
Is the R58 TUNE a commercial coffee-shop machine?
This is a residential product listing. Commercial-style features such as a rotary pump and separate boilers do not establish commercial duty or coverage. For a business, compare our Rocket Boxer, Doppia and R9 commercial models and verify the planned installation.
What support and warranty come with this listing?
Espresso Outlet’s one-year warranty applies under the linked terms, with the relevant written service arrangement governing a claim. Another retailer’s multi-year offer is not automatically included. Submit a support ticket before arranging work or returning equipment.
