La Spaziale S9 DSP 2 Group Volumetric Espresso Machine

The La Spaziale S9 DSP 2 Group is a full-size commercial heat-exchange espresso machine with electronic volumetric dosing, a 10-liter boiler, digital boiler-temperature display and ECO operating functions. It is designed for cafés, restaurants and foodservice bars that need a durable two-group platform with more operating feedback than a basic mechanical machine.

Standard-height and TA tall-cup versions are offered. Both use the same core two-group architecture, while the tall model increases clearance for takeaway vessels. Several advanced functions—including automatic milk emulsion and individual group-temperature options—are factory options rather than features that should be assumed on every unit.

Why Choose the S9 DSP?

10-liter commercial HX boiler

The large shared boiler supports simultaneous espresso, steam and hot-water demand. It provides substantially more reserve than La Spaziale's 5-liter compact platforms and is better suited to concentrated milk-drink rushes.

Electronic volumetric dosing

Program repeatable portions for each group so baristas can move to steaming and assembly. Check actual beverage yield with a scale because coffee age, grind and puck resistance can change the relationship between programmed volume and cup weight.

Digital boiler-temperature and status feedback

The display and status lighting improve visibility into warm-up and operating conditions. Automatic temperature boost and ECO functions help manage readiness and downtime without replacing opening calibration.

Standard or tall-cup workflow

The regular version suits traditional cups. The tall-cup variant adds clearance for takeaway drinks and weighs slightly more. Select the version from actual cup height and bar workflow.

Configuration-dependent options

Available factory options may include MAT automatic milk emulsion, ITC individual group temperature control, mixed-temperature hot water, cool-touch steam wands and an electric cup warmer. Only features written into the quote should be treated as included.

S9 DSP vs. S9 Compact

S9 DSP 2 Group 30.3 in wide, 10 L boiler, 220V, digital temperature/status functions
S9 EK Compact 22.8 in wide, 5 L boiler, 110V/220V choices, simpler compact platform
Decision Choose DSP for steam reserve and controls; choose Compact when space or electrical options dominate

Capacity and Shop Planning

The S9 DSP fits operations with two active baristas, repeated milk drinks and a need for straightforward volumetric workflow. It does not automatically require every optional automation package. Start with the menu, staffing, busiest interval and training model, then select only the features that solve an operational problem.

Pair the machine with grinders capable of the same peak pace. A second grinder is normally needed for decaf or a separate espresso, and grind-by-weight or timed dosing should be evaluated against speed, waste and calibration habits.

Installation and Water

Plan a dedicated 220V commercial connection using the exact unit's nameplate, along with treated water, shutoff, drain, counter support and service clearance. Test water before choosing treatment. Read our water testing guide.

Cleaning and Preventive Maintenance

Backflush both groups, clean screens and portafilters, purge and wipe steam wands, keep the drain clear and confirm volumetric recipes regularly. Use ECO schedules intentionally, and document water-treatment changes and preventive service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the S9 DSP a dual-boiler machine?

No. It uses a large commercial heat-exchange boiler. Optional electronic controls should not be confused with independent brew boilers.

What is the difference between standard and tall cup?

The TA version raises cup clearance and overall height for takeaway drinks. The core boiler and two-group workflow remain similar.

Does it have volumetric dosing?

Yes. Each group provides programmable automatic portions plus manual delivery.

Are automatic milk and individual group temperature control standard?

Not necessarily. MAT and ITC are configuration-dependent factory options and must be included in the written quote.

What does ECO mode do?

It reduces energy use during planned inactivity. Recovery and scheduling should be matched to opening and rush periods.

Does it require 220V?

The listed U.S. two-group configuration is 220V. Confirm wattage, amperage, phase and connection type before electrical work.

Does it use 58 mm portafilters?

No. It uses La Spaziale-compatible 53 mm equipment.

When should I choose the Compact instead?

Choose the Compact when a roughly 23-inch-wide chassis or a 110V option is more important than the S9 DSP's 10-liter boiler and added controls.
