Rocket Boxer 2 Group: Standard-Height Commercial Espresso in a Compact Footprint

This Rocket Boxer listing is for the standard-height two-group configuration. It pairs a 13.2-liter copper boiler with thermosiphon heat-exchange groups and programmed volumetric delivery. At 630mm wide, it is worth considering for a restaurant, bakery or compact café that needs two extraction positions but does not require the larger chassis and independent brew boilers of a flagship machine.

The standard-height arrangement suits espresso cups and a bar workflow that can transfer shots into taller vessels when necessary. It is not the separate Tall Cup Timer package. Confirm the selected clearance and timer options before ordering rather than transferring specifications from another Boxer page.

What the Standard Boxer Offers

Two extraction positions without a wide chassis

Two groups allow staggered drink preparation: one extraction can run while the next basket is prepared. The compact body leaves more room elsewhere on the counter, but the working station still needs space for grinders, milk tools and handoff. Two operators should evaluate the available elbow room, not just the fact that two groups exist.

Volumetric service with manual flexibility

Programmed water portions make repeated service easier to manage. Manual delivery remains useful when dialing in, rinsing or making a different recipe. A programmed portion is not a measurement of espresso weight, so establish the buttons around an actual recipe and verify the result when changing coffee or grind.

Traditional heat-exchanger temperature management

The main boiler supports steaming and hot-water service, while thermosiphon circulation heats the groups. A pressurestat regulates the boiler. There are no independent coffee boilers to set to different temperatures, and a steam-pressure adjustment is not the same as choosing a dedicated brew-boiler setpoint.

Standard Height vs. Tall Cup vs. Other Rocket Commercial Platforms

Select the Boxer 2 Group Tall Cup with shot timers when the extra clearance and confirmed timer configuration suit your bar. The one-group Boxer Timer reduces width but gives up a brewing position and uses a different boiler and power configuration.

The Rocket Doppia separates coffee and steam into two boilers and uses saturated groups. The Rocket R9 provides separate coffee boilers for independent group temperatures. Those differences matter when you serve multiple recipes or need more direct thermal control; they do not automatically make an appropriately sized Boxer unsuitable for good espresso.

Plan the Complete Installation

Design the water treatment around measured source water, provide an accessible shutoff and arrange the drain according to the installation requirements. Leave space to remove panels and service components. Confirm electrical service and actual delivered configuration before rough-in, and verify delivery access, lifting and loaded counter support.

Size the commercial grinder for the peak service interval. An espresso menu with decaf or rotating coffee may need a second grinder even though the machine has only two groups. Document opening recipe checks, steam-wand cleaning, group backflushing and water-treatment replacement as part of staff training.

Standard-Height Rocket Boxer 2 Group FAQs

Choosing the right Boxer

Is this the Tall Cup Boxer?

No. The selected configuration is standard height, with approximately 86mm clearance. The Tall Cup model is listed separately. Choose from the actual configuration rather than assuming the front-panel appearance establishes cup height.

Are shot timers standard on this machine?

Rocket lists timers as an option in the wider Boxer family. This standard-height listing does not establish the same included timer package as our explicitly named Tall Cup Timer listings. Confirm the written specification when timers are a requirement.

Why would I choose standard height over Tall Cup?

It can suit a bar primarily using espresso cups or transferring espresso into larger drinks. Tall Cup is more useful when directly brewing into a taller vessel matters. Compare cup-and-scale fit and your actual preparation sequence rather than assuming one format is universally better.

Can a large latte cup fit under the standard group?

Measure it. The approximate 86mm clearance is not a guarantee for a particular 12- or 16-ounce cup, especially when a scale is underneath. Cup volume and cup height are different specifications.

Is the Boxer 2 Group a good restaurant espresso machine?

It is a candidate when the restaurant needs two brewing positions, programmed portions and a compact counter footprint. Assess the rush, staffing, milk-drink mix and installation first. A small daily total can still include a demanding burst of after-dinner orders.

Does it replace a full-size high-volume machine?

Not for every operation. Its fit depends on sustained workload and the complete bar layout, not the adjective compact. Compare steam recovery, service access and workflow before choosing it solely to reduce counter width.

Brewing and workflow

Does each group have its own brew boiler?

No. The Boxer uses heat exchangers associated with the main boiler. Choose R9 for individual brew boilers, or Doppia for a shared coffee boiler separated from the steam boiler.

Does the standard Boxer have PID temperature control?

The manufacturer specifies pressurestat thermal control. Do not interpret programmed drink buttons as a brew-temperature PID. The controls for water portions and boiler temperature perform different tasks.

Can both groups brew during milk steaming?

Yes, within the machine’s operating capacity. The espresso and steam workflow is designed for overlapping tasks. Repeated hot-water use and large milk volumes still affect available recovery and should be included in capacity planning.

Why can programmed shots produce different weights?

Volumetric delivery does not directly weigh the drink. Different doses, grind settings and coffees can change the amount retained in the puck and the resulting cup weight. Check the recipe and grinder before repeatedly reprogramming buttons.

Can I use the groups for regular and decaf coffee?

Yes, using separate prepared doses and a suitable grinder workflow. The two groups do not provide separately adjustable brew-temperature boilers, and the espresso machine itself does not separate beans or grind coffee.

Does two groups mean two complete backup systems?

No. Important components are shared. A fault in a pump, electrical supply or main boiler can affect both positions. Consider service availability and a business-continuity plan instead of treating the second group as a spare machine.

Installation and ownership

Does the Boxer need direct plumbing?

Yes. Plan a treated water supply and appropriate drain. This is not the separate Boxer Tank model, and a portable container alone does not provide an approved pressurized supply for a mobile installation.

What electrical work should be completed before delivery?

Have an electrician verify voltage, phase, connector, required circuit and placement from the final unit’s documentation. The 4.3kW rating alone does not specify every installation detail. Do not order a receptacle based on a different Boxer generation’s photo.

How much service space is needed?

The 630 × 490mm footprint describes the cabinet, not maintenance or operating clearance. Allow room for hoses, shutoffs, cup handling, wand movement and panel removal. Confirm the plan with the installer before cutting a close-fitting counter enclosure.

What cleaning is required at the end of service?

Follow the supplied Rocket manual for each group’s cleaning and rinse cycle. Clean baskets, screens, steam tips and the tray, and monitor drainage. Automatic cleaning functions assist the brew-path routine but do not descale the boiler or clean the entire station without staff.

What is included beyond the machine?

Check the written packing list and package quotation for accessories, freight services, commissioning and training. A grinder, water-treatment system and site utility work should not be assumed included. Plan these before choosing an opening date.

How are commercial warranty and service handled?

Use Espresso Outlet’s written warranty terms and the included service plan for the order. Coverage for parts does not automatically cover labor or travel. Submit a support ticket with equipment and order details before arranging covered work.

Note about water hardness

Using hard water will ruin your espresso machine. Soft water no higher than 50ppm is required to keep your espresso machine running for the long term. Using hard water will void the warranty.
