Sumatra Gayo is Hemisphere’s dark-roasted choice for drinkers drawn to earthy body and a restrained chocolate accent. This 12 oz listing keeps the purchase small enough for a few deliberate brewing comparisons. Hemisphere credits Santiang Exports, run by Craig and Susan Owens, as the supplier connecting this coffee with Sumatran growers.

Find the concentration you enjoy
Try an initial drip recipe of 20 g coffee and 330 g water. Taste the finished cup before adding anything to it, then try a small milk addition if that is how you normally drink coffee. Notice whether the chocolate accent remains clear as you dilute the drink.
When the cup tastes overly concentrated, add a little hot water to a sample before changing the next brew. If that improves it, use a slightly larger brewing-water quantity next time. If the finish stays harsh at a lower concentration, consider a coarser grind or a different contact time instead.
Does the Gayo name establish the processing method?
Gayo identifies the coffee’s origin in this listing. The product information does not supply a processing method or cultivar, so those details should not be assumed from the regional name.
Once you have a preferred recipe, consider Sumatra Gayo in a 5 lb bag among our single-origin and blended coffees.
