The Nuova Simonelli Appia Life 2 Group Volumetric is a full-size commercial espresso machine for cafés, restaurants, bakeries, drive-throughs, and mobile coffee operations that need repeatable dosing and strong steam capacity without moving to a flagship-class platform. Programmable volumetric buttons stop each extraction at the saved dose, allowing a barista to steam milk or prepare the next drink while the shot runs.
This page is specifically for the full-size 2-group volumetric Appia Life. It is not the narrower Appia Life Compact, the 1 Group Volumetric, or the manually stopped Appia Life Semi-Automatic.
Choose the right 2-group configuration
| Configuration | Manufacturer SKU | Finish | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Volumetric | MAPPI19VOL02ND0001 | Black | Teams that want programmable doses and a simple control panel |
| Volumetric with Shot Timer | MAPPI23TIM020119 | White | Bar programs that want extraction time visible at the machine |
The timer configuration adds a digital shot-time display while retaining volumetric dosing. Nuova Simonelli identifies the 2-group platform as AutoSteam-capable, but its current U.S. configured-machine selector does not offer the packaged “Vol with AutoSteam” combination for the full-size 2-group. Contact us if steam automation is required so we can confirm the correct special-order build.
Key features
- Programmable volumetric dosing: Save repeatable single- and double-shot volumes for faster service and more consistent recipes.
- Two raised group heads: More clearance for takeaway cups while preserving a clear view of the extraction.
- 11-liter boiler: Sized for the steam and hot-water demand of a busy two-barista station.
- Cool-touch steam wands: Help reduce milk residue buildup and make routine wipe-downs easier.
- Soft Infusion System (SIS): A controlled pre-infusion design that helps make puck preparation more forgiving.
- Shot-timer option: Adds a digital timing reference for dialing in recipes and monitoring consistency throughout the day.
- Direct water and drain connections: Designed for permanent commercial installation rather than reservoir operation.

Site and water requirements
Plan the installation before delivery. The manufacturer calls for a dedicated cold-water supply with a shutoff valve and 3/8-inch compression connection, 2–4 bar incoming pressure, and at least 1 gallon per minute of flow. Provide an open gravity drain with a minimum 1.25-inch inside diameter within 4 feet of the machine and a 2.5-inch counter utility opening for lines.
For warranty protection and reliable operation, incoming water should be professionally tested and treated. Nuova Simonelli specifies hardness no higher than 3 grains per gallon (50 ppm), total dissolved solids of 50–250 ppm, alkalinity of 10–150 ppm, chlorine below 0.50 ppm, and pH from 6.5–8.5. Filtration finer than 1 micron is recommended. A water softener is required when the supply exceeds the stated hardness limit.

Frequently asked questions
Is this the Compact Appia Life?
No. This is the 31-inch-wide, full-size 2-group model with an 11-liter boiler. The Compact 2 Group is 22 inches wide and uses a 7.5-liter boiler.
What is the difference between standard volumetric and the timer model?
Both configurations stop brewing automatically at a programmed volume. The timer version also displays shot time, giving the barista an immediate reference when dialing in espresso and checking consistency.
Can the 2-group Appia Life operate on 110V?
No. The full-size 2-group model requires a 208–240V supply and a NEMA 6-20 connection. Have a licensed electrician verify the circuit before installation.
Does it need plumbing and a drain?
Yes. This is a plumbed commercial machine and requires both a dedicated filtered-water connection and an open gravity drain.
Which Appia Life is best for a smaller bar?
Choose the Appia Life Compact when counter width is the primary limitation. Choose the 1 Group Volumetric for lower drink volume and the smallest utility requirement.
