I'm very satisfied with the service from Espresso Outlet.
I've only had my DF64V for a few weeks, having run about a pound and a half of beans through it. I didn't break the burrs in with a few kilos of cheap coffee as, I'd rather endure the break-in than waste the hard work of the pickers.
So with the combination of some burr break-in and getting to know my beans, I'm pulling some great shots.
I can't speak to random comments about stalling, as I consider that to be misuse of the grinder (i.e. light roasted beans, ground at 800 rpm for espresso).
I've been grinding medium light beans at 1200 rpm and my shots are coming out predictably.
Noise was a concern, as it's difficult to get a handle on noise from the YouTube reviews, but I'd call it minimal, but high-pitched (when grinding). When not grinding, I have to feel the case for subtle vibrations to tell if it's on.
I find the bellows to be useful, unlike most YouTube reviewers. I'm not sure how much the ionizer works, but with with a couple of RDT sprays, I'm consistently getting from 17.9 to 18.0 g out when loading 18.0 g.
I love the magnetic chute. This is a brilliant idea!
Love everything about it but the plasma anti-static stays on so I have to unplug daily (I understand I can open up the machine and easily fix but have not done so yet and really should not have to on a new machine). But it grinds great and looks great. The cup does not fit too well so it does not look straight which bugs me a bit.
Amazing grinder. Couldn't be happier with it. Shipped fast.
This is my first “step up” grinder. I previously had a Capresso and it was great for beginning but this DF64v took my coffee to another planet. I didn’t realize how much change you could have in your brew quality with the grinds. There’s a ton of flexibility with this unit and I have plenty of room to grow. Barring any major mechanical issues with this grinder, I can easily see myself using it for the next 10+ years. There are two things about it that make it not a 5 star grinder. #1, it does not grind all the beat on the first round. I’ve tried loading the grinder first and also doing hot starts and regardless of my technique. I still can’t get all of the beans to grind on the first go around, which causes me to have to turn the machine off and on a couple times. #2 switching from a course grind to a fine grind can be cumbersome because some of the grinds get stuck in the birds and creates resistance when you try to adjust. I have found that I need to open the burrs completely, turn the machine on and let it spin while pumping the bellow then turn it off to try to tighten to grind size down again (repeating the process a few times to get back to espresso range). I’m not sure if this issue would be solved by upgrading to the SST burrs but with how good it grinds otherwise I’m not in a hurry to find out. I give this four stars in a very good way and I think that this is a fantastic upgrade for anyone who’s looking to really start to get serious with a grinder and have room for flexibility for their future coffee adventures.
