Turin DF64V Gen 2: Ion Generator & Updates

The 2024 Turin DF64V Gen 2 update added an ion generator and revised the slow-feed disc while changing the available speed range. This article documents those Gen 1-to-Gen 2 changes using our original photos and video.

Variable-speed range: what changed?

  • Gen 1: 600–1,800 RPM.
  • Gen 2: 800–1,800 RPM.

The Gen 2 minimum speed was raised, while the top setting remained the same. For meaningful comparisons, keep the coffee, dose, and burrs consistent and dial in again after changing speed. An RPM setting alone does not predict the flavor in the cup.

Ion generator: reducing static at the chute

Grinding can build up electrical charge, causing grounds to cling to the chute, cup, or surrounding surfaces. The Gen 2 ion generator is intended to reduce that charge as grounds exit. Less static can make the daily workflow tidier, but it does not mean the grinder requires no cleaning or retains absolutely no coffee.

The original comparison photos below show our tests with each generation. They illustrate those runs; the amount of static can vary with coffee, roast, humidity, and chute cleanliness.

Revised slow-feed disc

We did not use the earlier slow-feed disc in the Gen 1 configuration shown here because it did not perform as well as the revised design. The Gen 2 disc meters beans into the burrs to make feeding more consistent.
