Rocket RE Doppia 2 Group Dual Boiler Commercial Espresso Machine

The Rocket RE Doppia 2 Group is a commercial dual-boiler espresso machine built for cafés that need thermal stability, repeatable volumetric service and strong steam recovery. A dedicated 4-liter coffee boiler separates brew-temperature management from the 9-liter main steam boiler, while fully saturated groups and PID regulation support consistent extraction through changing service volume.

Automatic portion control, integrated shot timing, adjustable cup clearance and cool-touch steam wands make Doppia a practical step above a conventional heat-exchange machine. It is intended for specialty cafés, restaurants and high-volume bars that want more temperature separation without moving to a separate brew boiler for every group.

Why Choose the Rocket Doppia?

Commercial dual-boiler architecture

The coffee and steam systems are separated. Brew-temperature changes do not require changing steam-boiler pressure, and the 9-liter service boiler maintains steam and hot-water capacity during a rush.

Fully saturated groups

The groups are integrated closely with the brew system to reduce temperature drift and improve repeatability across consecutive shots. Proper warm-up and calibration remain essential.

PID and pressure-transducer control

PID regulation manages brew temperature, while a pressure transducer controls the steam system and supports responsive recovery. These systems provide a more precise baseline than a simple pressurestat HX machine.

Automatic volumetric dosing

Programmed portions let baristas begin an extraction and move to milk or drink assembly. Recipes still need to be checked by weight because coffee age, grind and puck resistance can change output.

Adjustable tall-cup platform

Cup clearance can be set between approximately 80mm and 130mm, allowing the bar to switch between espresso cups, scales and takeaway vessels.

Workflow and Capacity Planning

The Doppia suits locations where two groups, stable brew conditions and strong steam are required through concentrated demand. Model the busiest 15 minutes, percentage of milk drinks, hot-water demand, cup sizes and staffing. Pair it with grinders that can recover quickly after adjustments and consider a second grinder for decaf, alternate espresso or redundancy.

Compared with the Boxer 2 Group, Doppia adds separated brew and steam boilers, PID regulation and saturated groups. Compared with the R9, it uses one shared 4-liter coffee boiler rather than an individual brew boiler for each group. That makes Doppia a strong middle platform for shops prioritizing stability and value.

Doppia vs. Boxer 2 Group vs. R9

Model Brew architecture Best fit
Boxer 2 Group 13.2 L copper HX boiler Compact two-group value
Doppia 2 Group 4 L coffee + 9 L steam boiler Dual-boiler stability and saturated groups
R9 2 Group Two 1.9 L brew boilers + 9 L steam Different temperatures by group

Installation and Water Requirements

Doppia requires a dedicated commercial circuit, direct water, drainage and suitable water treatment. Confirm voltage and phase for the exact North American unit before purchase. Test incoming hardness, alkalinity, chloride and total dissolved solids so the treatment protects stainless boilers while producing good espresso. Provide an accessible shutoff and service clearance.

Cleaning and Preventive Service

Backflush each group according to drink volume, clean baskets and screens, purge steam before and after milk use, and verify volumetric programming daily. Replace water-treatment cartridges based on measured capacity rather than the calendar alone. Schedule preventive maintenance for seals, safety devices and steam performance before failures affect service.

Build a Rocket Commercial Bar

Compare all Rocket commercial espresso machines and the complete Rocket collection. Match the Doppia with appropriately sized commercial grinders for primary espresso, decaf and peak-volume redundancy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Rocket Doppia a dual boiler machine?

Yes. It uses a 4-liter coffee boiler and separate 9-liter steam/main boiler.

Does each group have its own boiler?

No. The two groups share the 4-liter coffee boiler. Choose the R9 when independent brew boilers by group are required.

Are the groups saturated?

Yes. Rocket specifies fully saturated groups for thermal stability.

Does it have PID control?

Yes. PID manages the brew system, while a pressure transducer controls steam recovery.

Does it offer volumetric dosing?

Yes. Automatic portion control supports programmed recipes.

Is a shot timer included?

Yes. Rocket lists the shot timer as standard.

What cup sizes fit?

The adjustable platform supports approximately 80mm to 130mm of clearance.

What power does it require?

The 2-group model is rated at 5.0kW. Confirm voltage, phase, amperage and connection before ordering.

Does it have a water tank?

No. It is a plumbed commercial machine requiring direct water and drainage.

Is a grinder included?

No. Commercial grinders should be selected around the menu and peak demand.

What warranty is included?

A one-year Espresso Outlet warranty applies; confirm labor, travel and installation terms for the project.

Note about water hardness

Using hard water will ruin your espresso machine. Soft water no higher than 50ppm is required to keep your espresso machine running for the long term. Using hard water will void the warranty.
