Flair 58 Basket Options: Fit, Dose and Flow
When choosing a basket for the Flair 58, check its dimensions, intended dose and fit with your specific portafilter. IMS and VST offer multiple designs; neither brand has one universal flow characteristic or guaranteed flavor advantage.
Identify what you already have
Flair has offered different low-flow, high-flow and other basket configurations. Check your model and supplied basket rather than assuming every Flair 58 ships with the same one. The maker’s basket descriptions explain the particular options shown there.
Check more than nominal diameter
- Basket height: verify clearance in the portafilter.
- Rim and spring fit: the basket must seat and remain secure.
- Internal diameter: check tamper and puck-screen fit.
- Dose range: choose for the amount of coffee you intend to use.
- Headspace: leave the clearance required by the brewing system.
A basket described as “58 mm” is not automatically interchangeable in every detail.
Change baskets for a reason
A different dose capacity, flow behavior or replacement for a damaged basket is a clear reason. Paying more without identifying the desired change is less useful. Precision-basket design and manufacturing explains which features affect the comparison.
Dial in again after switching
Keep coffee and intended dose consistent where both baskets support it. Check headspace, then adjust grind to reach a useful recipe. Do not force the old grind setting or assume a faster basket needs less coffee.
Compare taste and repeatability over several shots. The spent puck’s appearance is not the deciding quality test. Use careful basket removal when swapping parts so the rim and spring are not damaged.
